Carrollton City Schools recognized for healthy lunches

On April 11, Brenda Fitzgerald, M.D., commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Health, and First Lady Sandra Deal will visit Carrollton City Schools to congratulate them on being awarded the USDA’s Gold award. Carrollton City Schools is the first school district in Georgia to achieve the Gold award in the Healthier U.S. Schools Challenge, a voluntary national certification for schools participating in the national School Lunch Program. The USDA established the Healthier US Schools Challenge to recognize schools that create healthier school environments by providing nutrition education, nutritious food and beverage choices, physical education and opportunities for physical activity.
