Five Georgia Schools Selected for 2013 Nutrition Program
Five Georgia schools will get a lesson in nutrition and healthy eating habits next year from the Georgia Department of Agriculture. The schools have been selected to participate in the department’s second annual Feed My School for A Week program.
The initiative aims to increase children’s awareness of where their food comes from and the importance of making healthy food choices. It also works to give schools more farm-to-cafeteria opportunities and to increase the nutritional value and quality of food served in the schools. Programs include taste tests, essay contests and agricultural guest speakers. The 2013 schools will also serve lunches for a week that feature foods grown in Georgia.
The schools that will participate are West Chatham Elementary School in Pooler, Skyview Elementary School in Lizella, Sharon Elementary in Suwanee, Colbert Elementary in Colbert and Southside Elementary School in Cairo.
